Toddler and kids’ bike helmets are essential safety accessory for the growing child, but they are not all alike. From size, to adjustability, to design, use our comparison chart to find the best helmet for your child.
As kids grow, they like pace and action. This is why all kids like to ride bikes and scooters as it allows them to go much faster than they can run.
However, with these products, there is also a risk of falling and getting injured. And depending on the terrain on which you are riding, the injury can be severe.
I have seen so many kids hitting the ground when riding a scooter/bike (without a helmet) and falling straight on their head. However, they did not get injured because of the low height of the bike and also because the surface was soft and grassy.
However, there is always a risk when riding a bike/scooter.
What if the child was riding a bigger bike and on a hard surface?
This is why its important for kids to wear helmet.
With kids zipping around on two, three or four wheels ride-ons, helmets are a must as these are designed to prevent serious head injuries like skull fractures, concussions and severe traumatic brain injuries.
Kids should wear sport helmets whether on a scooter, skateboard, in-line and roller skates, or on a bike.
Bike helmets are required to comply with mandatory safety standards set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Surprisingly, you will see only a small percentage of children wearing helmet on a regular basis.
And I feel there are a couple of reasons for that.
I have seen some boys and girls complain that they find it uncomfortable to wear. Secondly, there is a lack of awareness programs that will make kids realize the importance of wearing helmets.
So, the onus of making your kids wear helmet, and also find one which is comfortable to wear, is on you.
Most kids are reluctant to wear a helmet and throw tantrums about them. If your child puts up a fight about the helmet, you should try convincing and selling it.
For example, you could make it seem like wearing a helmet is part of ‘gearing up’ for the activity.
And remember that they’re always watching — so you’ve got to wear one, too.
