May 28 is celebrated as World Play Day every year to celebrate the right of children to play.
World Play Day is sponsored by the International Toy Library Association (ITLA) to commemorate the day the ITLA was proposed in 1987.
ILTA believes that for children to improve their learning and creativity, it is important to engage in play that involves exploration, cognition, language experimentation, and development of social skills. UNESCO also suggests that encouraging creativity in children from an early age ensures healthier growth of the child.
Children learn to talk through play, they make friends through play, they get exercise through play, and also acquire basic skills that are required for formal education.
France and Korea were among the first few countries to celebrate the first World Play Day in 2000.
Each World Play Day focusses on a particular theme (which keeps on changing every year). For example: Free Play, Healthy Play, Sustainable Play.

We have a firm but friendly “democratic parenting” style and offer several practical suggestions backed by extensive research. Our own experience with raising two children prompted us to share our knowledge. Read more.
