Introduction

The first RC car for my kids was not bought by me or my wife but it was presented to them as gifts on their birthdays. I clearly remember that on one of their birthdays they received quite a few RC cars as gifts.

RC car and remote

Some parents find it a bit technical to use RC cars so they avoid buying them for their kids, however, it’s not very difficult to set these up and start using these.

RC car and remote

You just need to put the battery properly in the car, charge the battery and you are good to go. Once the battery is fully charged, you just have to learn how to use the remote to control the car.

While you get RC cars for kids of all ages, kids aged around 7-8 years are better equipped to use these.

RC Cars: Buying Guide

Kids (and even adults) love Radio-controlled (RC) cars and toys because of the endless entertainment they provide; these toys allow kids to enjoy cars at a much smaller scale.

RC car turns into robot

While translating a real car’s performance on to a smaller toy model is challenging, this RC aficionado just did that. The creator used a 3D printer for the hardbody, wheels, and tires and it took him a year to build the car with a functioning active suspension. The video below highlights the car’s handling dynamics.

Remote Controlled Cars: A Fun Hobby for Adults as Well

Remote Controlled Cars is a popular hobby among enthusiasts who love radio controlled devices. Those who are interested in radio controlled hobbies, usually start with a basic radio controlled car. Its easier to make, and unlike a RC boat or a plane, a RC car is not going to get destroyed if it it fails.

As you gain this knowledge, you can start to use advanced techniques to create cars that are stronger, faster, or more efficient than your previous ones. You can throw one together in a few minutes, or you can spend months creating an amazing car with superb speed and handling. The amount of effort you put into it is entirely up to you.

When just starting out with radio controlled hobbies, it is a good idea to just buy a pre-made radio controlled car, play it for a few days and then take it apart to understand more about its general architecture of the car.

RC car parts

This knowledge should help you build your own the next time. You can even reuse some parts, such as the body of the car or the radio equipment. The motors will probably not be as strong as you would like.

For most people, the goal is to make an RC car that is good looking and offers better performance, which means installing the electrical components, painting it and applying decals. Radio controlled car competitions and exhibitions are also very popular, in case you wish to compete with other enthusiasts.

Self Driving Cars

While your kids might love their electric powered ride-on cars, telling them about self-driving cars will make for a nice bed-time story. Besides, its also very much possible that in future they may never feel the need to learn to drive because of self-driving cars.

In future, kids would be able to go to school in a self-driving car which will have ‘no driver’.

Also known as autonomous or ‘driver-less cars’, these cars use multiple cameras to see and computers to control, steer, and drive the vehicle.

As of now, most self-driving cars are limited to a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour, but that may increase in future. On a full recharge, these cars can travel up to a distance of 160 kilometers, but even that may increase in future.

Most of these driver-less cars will also run on electricity which means there will be less pollution, less traffic congestion, fewer accidents and space saved in parking.

Google was the first company to operate an autonomous car model.
