About Tower Bridge
“London Bridge is falling down, My fair lady” is the popular nursery rhyme based on the famous London Tower Bridge, located in London.
There are many amazing facts about this bridge:
The London Tower Bridge is a bridge built over the river Thames. It is named after the Tower of London which is located on one side of the bridge.
It took around eight years to build the London Tower Bridge which was opened for people on 30 June 1894. The bridge is 244 meters in length with two towers, each 65 meters high and is made from more than 9,97,9032 of steel.
The two towers are connected by two walkways and suspended sections to either side of the towers. The middle section of the bridge can he opened to allow ships to pass through. It takes 61 seconds to open the Tower Bridge, and it is usually opened three times a day for tall ships or boats to sail across.
It is one of the busiest bridges in the world. Around 40,000 people cross the bridge every day.
The bridge also has an exhibition center inside called “The Tower Bridge Experience” that lets you discover the history of the bridge and how it was built, through interactive displays and videos. The Tower Bridge Exhibition also has a glass walkway.
To mark the 2012 Olympic Games in London, a massive set of Olympic Rings was displayed on the Tower Bridge.
