One great thing about the Nerf Gun is that it’s not just popular with kids, even adults like to play with it. These small-sized pistol-like guns fire foam darts and are great fun for the family.
Introduction to Nerf Guns
For a long time, I did not pick up the Nerf Guns for my kids, despite having seen them in stores, was because they were expensive compared to the other options that were available.
Toys usually don’t last much longer with kids; even if you buy good quality stuff. So mindful of that fact, on a few occasions, I bough them cheaper versions of these guns.
However, I was really disappointed with their quality. In fact, one toy gun that I bought did not last even a day. That was when I decide to get Nerf guns for my kids.
And I am really glad that I bought these for my kids.
About NERF Guns
Nerf is a toy brand owned by Hasbro. While NERF is known for their range of guns today, the company started off as a manufacturer of the hoop and basketball. It was the success of its “Bow ‘N’ Arrow” (that used foam darts) in 1991 that transformed the company into what it is today.
The best thing about these toy guns is the material these darts are made from. These darts travel fast but won’t puncture the skin or grievously hurt even if shot on the face. The ones made for the older kids and adults however require you to wear a face mask.
Nerf gun includes a range of models that fire foam-based bullets. These are popular because of their safe to use bullets and also because of their realistically designed guns. Nerf Guns are extremely popular among kids and adults of all ages.

Clever use of engineering
There are a lot of toys where a good amount of engineering is required, and the toys are a lot clever than we think. Nerf guns are one such toy that make clever use of levers, springs, sliders, cams and nerf darts. Not only is a good amount of engineering involved, but they have also made it cheap enough so that a lot of parents can buy, and of course they are safe to use as well.
Games that you can play using the Nerf Toy Guns
Have a few of these at home and it can quickly turn into a fun-filled family game. You can play with NERF blasters in the living room, bedrooms, cubicles, or anywhere at home.
Here’s how we typically use Nerf Guns at home.
Taking shots at each other. This is the most obvious way to use it. Just find yourself a nice corner to hide and shoot darts at your opponents.
Note: Make sure you take frequent pauses (small ones though) to collect all the darts that are scattered around.
Another popular game that we play with our Nerf guns is to keep things like bottles or toys at a distance, and try to bring them down with the Nerf guns.
Want to get some exercise? Trying dodging the bullets while your little one takes shots at you. Stand a few meters away and tell your kids to shoot you below the waist with their Nerf funs. Your job will be to dodge the bullets – basically jump or move sideways while they shoot the darts.
Not only is it fun, it is tiring as well, and a fun way to get some exercise while bonding with your kids.

.Nerf Toy Guns: More Information & Videos
Here’s a bit on Nerf gun history. In the late 1960s, American inventor Reyn Guyer came out with foam balls, and that is when the first Nerf Ball was introduced. The best thing about this invention was that kids could now play safely with these guns that used foam bullets. The first Nerf Gun was the Nerf Blaster model that could fire one foam ball every 2 seconds.
Office Wars – five minutes of great fun
NERF Blasters, while fun in most parts of the world, this type of play is not always seen as appropriate for German children.
So Hasbro decided to target the young men who had just started their working lives, those who find sitting in from of a computer screen for longer hours very frustrating, and needed to let off steam.
